Doctors Medical Center Recognized for Maternity, Opioid Care and Patient Safety

May 25, 2021

We are proud to announce that Doctors Medical Center has been recognized with the 2020 Maternity, Opioid Care and Patient Safety Honor Roll Awards from the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Agency, Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) and Cal Hospital Compare (CHC). These awards signify our efforts in delivering safer and more affordable care for our patients.

Cal Hospital Compare produces three hospital honor rolls to accelerate hospital progress, recognize and celebrate hospital performance, and to support patients and families in choosing hospitals that best fit their healthcare needs.

  • Maternity Care Honor Roll recognizes hospitals hitting a statewide target of low-risk C-sections
  • Opioid Care Honor Roll supports the continued efforts of California hospitals addressing the opioid epidemic and accelerate hospital progress to reduce opioid related deaths
  • Patient Safety Honor Roll offers Californians a rigorously evaluated list of hospitals that have consistently demonstrated a strong culture of safety across multiple departments

Across California:

  • 32 hospitals met performance standards in both maternity and opioid care
  • 141 hospitals met performance standards in maternity care
  • 53 hospitals met performance standards in opioid care

For the Patient Safety Honor Roll, only 73 hospitals were awarded out of the 329 considered.

“Improving the quality of patient care in hospitals is an ongoing process,” said Dr. Mark Ghaly, CHHS Agency Secretary. “These annual measurements through Cal Hospital Compare help us to applaud those hospitals doing excellent work and show where improvement is needed. With the impact of COVID-19 on our health care community, it is even more important to celebrate exemplary hospital performance.”

“Cal Hospital Compare is proud to contribute to the statewide effort to improve quality in the hospital setting by providing a roadmap and way to evaluate performance for hospitals in the important areas of maternity and opioid care – and show where improvement is needed,” said Bruce Spurlock, MD, the executive director of Cal Hospital Compare. “We invite all California hospitals to use these honor rolls as a tool to evaluate and benchmark performance against other hospitals.”
