Family Medicine Resident Accepted into Ventura County Fellowship

Feb 14, 2019

We are proud to share with you that Dr. Damandeep Baidwan, one of our third year residents in the Valley Family Medicine Residency at Doctors Medical Center, has been accepted into the Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship at the Ventura County Medical Center. The program only accepts two fellows a year. Dr. Baidwan will begin the one-year fellowship in July after graduating from residency in Modesto.

Dr. Damandeep Baidwan’s Bio:

Dr. Damandeep BaidwanI was born and brought up in Punjab, India. I am fluent in four languages: Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and of course English. After graduating from high school, I migrated to the US with my family. I am the first member in my family to be given the opportunity to go to college. I joined community college and being good in science, I took the opportunity to support my college education from tutoring services. Further, I transferred to UC Davis to pursue biology. I joined Sahaita, a non-profit org, which helps organize medical camps to screen uninsured patients in the Indian community for chronic health problems. Also I was able to work on Autism research projects funded by the public health department. Having a deep interest in preventative medicine, I proceeded with my master’s degree in Public Health and worked on projects involving breastfeeding initiatives and pediatric obesity which expanded and solidified my interest in pursuing primary care; I then joined medical school at St. George’s University. I am married and my husband is pursuing residency training in another state. Before starting residency, we traveled to India on a missionary trip as well as to visit family. Outside of work, I enjoy playing the Harmonium, which is a keyboard instrument. In the future, I am hoping to stay in the Central Valley and practice the whole spectrum of family medicine in a teaching facility and continue my missionary trips to India.
