Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Doctors Medical Center Matches to Top Trauma Fellowship Program

Mar 20, 2018
Jacob DuncanModesto, Calif. – Doctors Medical Center is proud to announce that one of our orthopedic surgery residents has matched to a top trauma fellowship, becoming the first DO accepted into the program.

Jacob Duncan, DO, is currently a fourth year orthopedic surgery resident in the Valley Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Doctors Medical Center. After graduating from the program in the summer of 2019, he will be heading to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he matched into the orthopedic trauma fellowship program. Dr. Duncan was the only DO interviewed this year for the fellowship and is the first DO they have ever accepted.

“Dr. Duncan worked hard to get that spot and deserved it,” said Dr. Marc Trzeciak, founding director of the orthopedic surgery residency. “Our residents are given the framework of knowledge to compete with anyone in the country. The training they receive is top notch.”

Doctors Medical Center is set to have 16 orthopedic surgery residents for the upcoming academic year. Nearly 200 applications were submitted to the program this year, which is the highest number of applications the program has received to date. Interest in our orthopedic residency continues to grow and is proving to be one of the top in the country.

“We are proud of our program and want people to know we are training the future of orthopedic surgery right here in the Central Valley,” Dr. Trzeciak said. “Our residents are being matched into competitive fellowships and we would love to see them come back and practice with us.”

Zachary Lum, DO, who graduated from the program last summer, is completing his adult reconstruction fellowship at UC Davis Health in Sacramento.

Eric Huish, DO, who graduated in December, was the 2017 Recipient of the Outstanding Resident of the Year Award in Orthopedics. He will be completing a shoulder and elbow fellowship in France this summer and then he will head to Baltimore in the fall where he will continue his fellowship training at Johns Hopkins.

Joseph Humpherys, DO, who will be graduating this summer, has been accepted into the sports medicine fellowship program at the University of Missouri and will begin this fall.
